Ben's friend got engaged this weekend, and we were on the list of the 20 invited guests for the special occasion. After five interviews, he was sure she was the one. So they have decided to get married. But first the engagement. Meeting at a church with both sets of parent's, the family members formally gave their mutual "willingness" for the marriage, after which the groom and bride-to-be gave their consent as well.

Trays laden with various fruits, garlands of flowers, a dress, a gold ring, and sweets were presented to the in-laws (this particular exchange of gifts is customary of southern India). Ben and I watched as our friend glowed with silent joy over his fiance' as the engagement rings were exchanged. Now that they are engaged, they will begin to see one another more regularly until the wedding date. We look forward to getting to know her.
