Brain Space

Ten days from now Ben, Shane, and I will be waking way to early in the morning to board a large airplane which will take us first to Frankfurt, and then in one final stretch and "umpteen" hours later into Portland, OR. It's been 20 months since my husband and I have been in the states. It's been never since Shane has... this is his first visit to America. We will be state side for two months with trips all over, a myriad of many whirlwind activities throughout. I feel exhausted just thinking about it. But there are family and friends at every stop and for this, I rejoice!

There is much to do before we leave so we do our best to focus on each day, each hour, each moment we are given for the next ten days.

There are growing piles of stuff to pack. When I lay in bed at night, I wonder how I will maintain a civil attitude in spite of endlessly cold toes in the USA. On Ben's mind is whether he can maintain civil behavior in spite of the madness he will feel when tasting red meat...it's been too long (for him; not me!). Oh, and he had a zillion other details on his mind as well.

So these are the things we ponder. Okay, so there are other things we're thinking about too, but these are some mundane thoughts taking up small corners of our swelling brains. Shane on the other hand is thinking about milk and rice cereal, banana's and pears, mango's and peaches. And that takes up all his brain space. He's exhausted by the end of the day with so much food for thought. But hey can you blame him? What better to take up brain space that thoughts of food? Especially when it's pureed mango and rice cereal.

I'm sad that we will not be in Oregon so we can see you! Another time though! We will keep you in our prayers as you travel and hopefully you will update your blog while you are in Oregon? Is Shane lap-sitting on the plane or will he have his own seat? One thing that has been quite helpful to me w/ plane travel is to string some toys on a scarf and then while on the plane I attach the scarf to myself or the arm rest - that way the baby can play with them but they don't keep falling on the filthy floor (The game of "I throw it, mommy retrieves it!" gets old!)
Hope it goes smooth for you and enjoy your time off!

Hopefully your toes won't get too cold since it's summer. But there's always AC isn't there?

Have a great trip!
