Kittens in the Engine?!?!

There's a momma cat wailing for her three kittens day and night just outside our window. And there's no one who feels worse for her than Ben and I.

We were on our way to church on Sunday when suddenly an odd noise made us stop the car. Once we did, a kitten ran from underneath our car and onto a pile of rubble. I wondered out loud where it came from. Ben immediately got out of the car. Popping open the hood and looking inside, he suddenly waved at me to Shut off the car!! Peering underneath the car engine, fan belt, and various wires and pipes sat two more kitten staring up at us with very wide eyes. We were stupefied! Kittens in our engine. What? How? When? I stuttered. Apparently the kittens crawled up and into the hood of the car the night before. Thankfully we hadn't gotten too far before realizing that the meow-meow from under the hood wasn't normal. One of the two kittens slipped under the engine and onto the ground below, while it took a little while longer to coax the other one out. All three dashed away in opposite directions.

We are a cat-loving couple and thankful that the kittens weren't harmed. At the same time, we're just a little sick in the gut knowing they're all separated. Poor momma cat has no idea why her babies have suddenly gone missing. They were unknowingly taking a joy-ride while we were unknowingly crossing town with three kittens in tow.

The conclusion of the story is this: The next time you go to church, check under the hood of your car. Because the meow-meow isn't a broken fan belt. It's three kittens in tow.
